Marine Drive Bike Ride

Marine Drive bike pathWe explored a new bike path today. It's along the Columbia River by the airport and I read several reports that it was good for kids (because it's a segregated paved path, mostly level and has up close views of airplanes).

Jamie watching planes at the airportIt lived up to it's reviews. We had a great time and went on our longest bike ride yet - just over 7.5 miles. Since it was the day after the 4th of July, we had to dodge leftover fireworks trash. Grrrr. Lainey declared herself and excellent bike rider because of her ability to ride around all the debris. Go Lainey!

Watching planesWe stopped in both directions, parallel to the take-off runway. The kids loved watching the planes and even tried racing them.

I'd picked out Broughton Beach as a possible turn-around point but it was almost 4 miles from the start and that seemed like a lot for Lainey. Next time we'll have to plan better for the beach!Lainey running on Broughton Beach

After our ride, we stopped for lunch and shopping at Ikea. It was our first visit to this famed store and the craft half of the office & craft room should soon have some order to it!
